Kirsty Ethynes

Janis Bowker and Kirsty Ethynes have eco consciences, value social responsibility, and have a passion for business. We wanted to buy environmentally friendly, ethically produced products that really worked. We spent hours on the internet looking for various products we could not readily purchase locally, and found they just weren't that easy to find without a whole lot of time and effort.

Leading busy lives, the question "How can we make it easy to purchase eco friendly products and reduce the time spent looking for them?" was at the forefront of our minds when Green Bazaar was born. We launched Green Bazaar at National Fieldays, Mystery Creek, Hamilton, New Zealand in June 2009.

Janis sources most of the products finding the sourcing process very exciting. "There are so many wonderful sustainable, environmentally friendly products available to choose from." We endeavour to use most of the products, so we have some personal experience of them. Products are sourced primarily from within New Zealand and Australia, but also internationally, and we have found some wonderfully enthrusiastic, innovative, like minded people in suppliers.

We actively seek to use sustainable practices in the business and at home.

At Work We: 
  • use recycled packaging wherever possible
  • recycle waste paper products by shredding rather than purchasing fill
  • re-use boxes that goods have been delivered in
  • have reduced our electricity consumption by half in the last 12months
  • limit our fuel consumption at every opportunity 
  • use green cleaning products
        		 
        At Home Janis:  
        • enjoys organic vegetables almost 12mths of the year from her vegetable garden
        • enjoys organic fruit from trees producing 12mnths of the year
        •  keeps chickens that provide free range eggs daily
        • has grown her own meat
        • has planted trees to encourage more bird life
        • uses green cleaning products
        • walks the dog to collect the Post and works from home reducing fuel consumption

        Not purests, but wanting to make a conscious effort to use sustainable products in our lives has developed an interest far wider than we ever anticipated. We find eco-friendly living and sustainability to be a journey. We believe the journey's outcome will be when future generations get to use the earth's resources we have had the privilege of using throughout our lives.

        We see the sourcing of new and exciting products an integral part of this business. There will always be something new arriving. We invite you to join us on this journey, tell us what you want to find, we want to know.
